Standard Uniform...

Do you have a look that you just know suits you to a tee? One that you really love, and find yourself constantly buying updated versions of the same pieces? Maybe your wardrobe ends up cultivated by the same look over and over again, with perhaps a few impulse purchases peppered here and there, sticking out like a sore thumb.

Are you one of those girls?

I am.

My standard uniform consists of pretty, but not overly girly skater type dresses. Some with sleeves, some without, different necklines, prints, colours. But all that same shape that I know suits me well.

Add opaque tights (a thick denier), some form of black ankle boots (platform wedges, platform chelsea boots, low block heels or buckled suede) a leather jacket (black biker, black with fur collar, dark green or grey) and my trusty Mulberry Mitzy Tote (now nicely battered).

I do have a variation on my standard uniform, whereby I swap the dresses for dark skinny jeans and some form of boxy tee or vest (usually expensive grey or black cotton, maybe a breton stripe. I seem to spend more on t-shirts than I do on dresses). During summer, the black ankle boots get replaced with Office 'Abu Dhabi' and 'Arabian Nights' sandals (yes, I have five pairs of those two particular styles in various materials and colours. All very, very similar) or an Opening Ceremony-inspired buckled front wedge.

The thing is, I don't mind these standard uniforms because I know they are totally me - my style, suitable for my body and totally comfortable. I wouldn't feel at home in something different.

But it's not really fashion, is it? I may interpret trends in the height of my heel and the print on my dress, but I'm certainly not taking looks straight from the catwalk. So my question is...

Am I stuck in a style rut?

What do you think? Do you have a standard style uniform? I would love to know your opinion. Let me know in the comments or tweet me; @fionagoby.
